How does FIES work?

The Student Financing Fund (FIES) is a Federal Government initiative that aims to facilitate access to higher education by offering student credit to finance undergraduate courses at private institutions.

Its main advantage is that interest rates are low compared to other financing options, although they depend greatly on the course and institution chosen.

Furthermore, it is only after completing the course that you will start paying off the debt. This means you have more time and peace of mind to deal with the monthly payments.

It is also worth remembering that there are currently two types of financing.

Firstly, FIES is aimed at students with a per capita family income of up to three minimum wages. In addition, they must have taken the ENEM and obtained a minimum score.

Meanwhile, P-FIES does not require you to have participated in ENEM and also does not have this income restriction, therefore being an accessible option for a larger group of people.

Rules for participating in FIES 2025

To participate in FIES, students must comply with some rules. See below what they are:

  • Take the Enem: it is mandatory to have taken part in the Enem and achieved at least 450 points on average in the tests and at least 400 points in the essay;
  • Family income: the candidate's per capita family income must be within the limits required by the program (up to three minimum wages);
  • Course from an affiliated institution: the course you wish to finance must be from an educational institution that has signed an agreement with FIES.
